How to Avoid Stretching or Stringing during 3D Printing?

In the daily 3D printing, I can see a lot of finished products are very beautiful, some even exclaimed that its molding is so amazing, especially with the latest 2.0 version of Hyper PLA+ filament, you will feel it like a work of art, the surface is extremely smooth and delicate.

But you may not know is that not all the finished 3D printing surface is so smooth and delicate, there will be some surface roughness, and even some models above the problem of pulling or stringing, this is not an exception, so to solve or avoid the problem of pulling or stringing in the 3D printing, we cite the following reasons, and corresponding to give the solution:

1、 Printing temperature and filament mismatch

Problem Analysis:

The printer's temperature settings, is the most common cause of filament stringing reasons, when the temperature is too high, the filament in the nozzle melts too much, too fluid, this situation will pull the filament out of the nozzle. When the temperature is too low, the filament is not completely melted in the nozzle, this time the filament in the nozzle liquidity is poor, than the long will be relatively slow from the nozzle spit out, and spit out part of the filament has been affixed to the finished product, the filament is not completely melted from the nozzle spit out, will be forced to pull out, the formation of this case of pulling or stringing.

Solution:

Before printing, first understand the current printing filament optimal printing temperature, only in the corresponding filament optimal printing temperature, in order to print the best results, I exemplified in the table below, please parameterize the debugging.

Remarks:The above table is the suitable temperature range of various materials, not the brand of filament, the optimal temperature may not be consistent, so it is only for reference. The recommended printing temperature for UJOYBIO3D's PLA+ filament series is 220℃.

If the drawing phenomenon is caused by excessive temperature, then you can adjust the temperature downward by 10℃ for testing, and if it is still drawing, adjust the temperature downward again for testing. But also need to check other aspects of the cause.

2、Nozzle extrusion problems

Problem analysis:

When the filament melted, spit out from the nozzle, if there are foreign objects in the nozzle, resulting in filament from the nozzle out of the smooth, and out of that part of the filament has been affixed to the model, has been melted and has not had time to spit out the filament will be forced to pull out of the model affixed to the model, which also caused the pulling of the wire.

Solution:

Check the printer nozzle whether there is a foreign body, the nozzle can be disassembled for a clean.

3、Back to the pumping settings do not match

Problem Analysis:

In the printing software parameters, if the pumping distance is not set enough, the print head to move to a new position, the pumping distance is not enough, will lead to filament continue to flow from the nozzle, the form of filament pulling; when the pumping speed settings do not match, too slow will result in filament flow from the nozzle, resulting in the phenomenon of pulling.

Solution:

When the pumping height is not enough, caused by the phenomenon of drawing, you can set the pumping distance to 1.2mm, which can be very good to avoid the phenomenon of drawing. At the same time to observe the pumping speed, the default pumping speed of 30mm / s, if there is still pulling the phenomenon, you can increase to 45mm / s, and then observe the adjustments made to avoid excessive speed, resulting in nozzle clogging.

4、 Printing software settings

Problem Analysis:

Parameter settings are more problems, including the speed of printing, filament printing melting temperature, as well as set the layer height, line width, fill density, etc., when the print speed is too fast, the filament in the nozzle too late to melt more filaments, resulting in pulling the string line. Too slow is too much filament aggregation, resulting in the finished product surface is not smooth. This is the same basic principle as the melting temperature of the filament.

Solution:

In general the faster the speed of printing, the more likely to cause drawing, the speed is super slow, the better the print, do not have to worry about the speed is too slow, resulting in the printing of the surface of the model is not smooth, the current 3D printer nozzle has a cooling system, so do not print speed, while ignoring the quality of the print. For layer height, line width and fill density issues, each print model has a default parameter, try to keep consistent.

5、The humidity of the filament

Problem analysis:

When the filament long-term processing in a higher temperature environment, it is very easy to cause the filament penetration of moisture in the air, this situation is also a common cause of drawing.

Solution:

When you find that the filament has become more moist, and printing produced a clear drawing, the quickest way to put it in the microwave oven can be heated for a few minutes, do not heat the time is too long, resulting in excessive temperature and softening of the filament, affecting the quality of the print.

Remember not to directly use the fire baking and other methods, this is very easy to cause the filament due to uneven local heat and deformation, resulting in printing blockage.

Long-term solution is to purchase a dry box, placed inside the desiccant. If in order to more intuitive performance of the temperature problem, you can buy a dry table for real-time detection, this method is a long-term method, and very worry-free.

6、Multi-color printing of the drawing problem

Problem Analysis:

When you use a variety of colors of filament in a printer mixed printing, this situation will also have caused the problem of drawing.

Multi-color printing can be printed next to the model set up a wipe wall, also known as wipe tower, this although it feels more wasteful filament, but in the printer switch filament, when the nozzle moves will cause the problem of filament pulling, so wipe the wall is a multi-color printing to solve the problem of filament pulling a compromise method.

7、The printer or model is not stable

Problem Analysis:

When in the printing process, you find that the printer in the constant shaking, or print the model in the printer has a slight shaking, when the nozzle in the fit model surface, it will cause the contact is not comprehensive enough to produce the phenomenon of filament pulling.

Solution:

When the printer printing work is not stable, it may be necessary to place the printer in a stable place to avoid the problem of wobbling when the printer is working.

If the model is shaking, it is necessary to add support to the model and increase the width of the first layer of the print by 5mm to avoid drawing caused by the shaking of the model.
